Nine scientists from different Ukrainian R&D institutes and two STCU Senior Specialists participated in NATO ASI Workshop “Optical Waveguide Sensing & Imaging in Medicine, Environment, Security and Defense” which included lectures, discussions, Technology Commercialization Workshop and poster session. The Workshop took place on October 12-21, 2006 in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada.

Technical presentations made by international recognized experts were focused on the latest research in biophotonics and its application in medicine, environmental investigations / applications and security.

Ukrainian scientists were particularly interested in Advanced Technology Commercialization workshop which provided an opportunity to focus their efforts on commercialization partnerships and business venture development activities. Members of STCU mission also made poster presentations and had lengthy face-to-face meetings with representatives of government laboratories, research centers and industry. They discussed research within their institutes in this rapidly evolving area of science. The presentations of the Ukrainian delegation particularly emphasized the advantages of collaborative research between Ukrainian scientists and their Western counterparts in STCU framework.

A post conference tour to leading Canadian institutions in biomedical sensing and photonics aimed at establishment of collaborative agreements/partnerships between Ukrainian and Canadian scientists was organized for STCU delegation. During the poster session and other workshop activities the mission participants established valuable contacts with more than 60 scientists and company representatives from different countries.
