STCU Announcement. A hybrid three-day training course entitled “Strengthening Individual and Institutional Cybersecurity Capacity against Proliferator State Threats for Research Institutes and Academia in Ukraine”

STCU Announcement
The STCU is pleased to invite interested Ukrainian scientists, technicians, engineers (STEs) to attend a hybrid three-day training course entitled “Research Vetting, Knowledge Security, Responsible Science, and Individual Cybersecurity Training for Ukrainian Researchers.”The training will be conducted by top research integrity, knowledge security, responsible science, and cybersecurity professionals. The intended audience is Ukrainian scientists, technicians, and engineers who are in financially disrupted circumstances due to the current war, whose financial circumstances may make them vulnerable to unwitting exploitation by malign actors.

This course will strengthen the participants’ skills in research vetting, knowledge security, responsible science, individual cybersecurity, and intellectual property protection to protect sensitive dual-use knowledge from unwitting disclosure to proliferator states or other malign actors.
The modular courses will comprise topics such as research vetting and due diligence, responsible science, intellectual property protection with an emphasis on knowledge in intangible form (residing in a scientist’s head), knowledge security best practices for protecting sensitive knowledge in displaced circumstances; social engineering; individual cyber hygiene; real-life incidents and impact; best practices for vetting research partners, strengthening knowledge security, and controlling intangible technological transfers and practical techniques to strengthen researchers’ safety and security in cyberspace. The course will include lectures and practical exercises.

The training courses are scheduled to be on 24-26 of April, 2023. The course will be available virtually (from your home or office) and an in-person training segment will take place in parallel with the virtual one, in Warsaw, Poland for Ukrainian participants that are based in those or neighboring countries and willing and able to undertake the travel for the event.
