Fact Finding Visit of the P100 Strengthening of Front Line Biosafety and Biosecurity Measures in the SEEE Region Team to Georgia

Kyiv, Ukraine - The STCU Team for P100 Strengthening f Front Line Biosafety and Biosecurity Measures in the South East and Eastern European Region (SEEE) Region visited Georgia on October 12-13, 2023. The purpose of the visit was to assess the national system on Front Line Security/ Protection focused on Front Line Biosafety and Biosecurity Threats Management, national regulations, existing institutions and stakeholders, training and education programs and current technical capabilities relevant for training and exercise needs in Front Line Biosafety and Biosecurity Threats Management of Georgia.
During the fact-finding visit, the P100 team engaged in crucial meetings with key entities of Georgia, including the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Customs Committee of the Ministry of Finance and Richard Lugar Center for Public Health Research, and visited the Red Bridge Border Control Point of Georgia to better understand the landscape of the front line biosafety and biosecurity management in the country. The P100 team briefed beneficiaries of the Georgian government for P100 about the project goals and objectives underlining its dedication to fostering collaboration, sharing expertise, and supporting SEEE countries in strengthening their front line biosafety and biosecurity management capacities.
These meetings were instrumental in evaluating the existing infrastructure and knowledge in Georgia related to the front line biosafety and biosecurity management. The parties agreed to work collaboratively within the P10 frameworks to build on the findings of the assessment visit to further enhance the front line biosafety and biosecurity capacities and capabilities of Georgia.
